APPLE'S QUANTUM DOT TECHNOLOGY

APPLE is experimenting with a new screen technology that could bring deeper, sharper colours to the iPhone 6.
Patent filings suggest that the company is planning to use "quantum dots" – tiny crystal semiconductors measuring thousandths of a millimetre across - in its screens. They can be tuned to emit light at highly specific frequencies, meaning that a quantum dot screen can reproduce colour more accurately than existing LED displays.
Apple isn't the first and won't be the last company to employ this cool technology. Sony already uses quantum dots in some of its TVs under the Triluminous brand, though it's not believed any of its phones currently use the tech despite the Triluminous brand being applied to some of them. Amazon used quantum dots to good effect in the Kindle Fire HDX 7 and HDX 8.9 tablets as well.
